Petru, the 79-year-old patriarch of Moldova's Metropolis of Bessarabia, has resigned due to health and age, with the Romanian Orthodox Church set to appoint a successor. The resignation comes amid ongoing rivalry between Moldova's Russian- and Romanian-linked Orthodox churches.
